+ How do dermal fillers work?

Depending on the consistency, dermal fillers aim to fill where you’ve lost volume, reducing fine or deep lines and folds. They are clear gels which add volume when injected in small quantities.

These work by attracting water from the surrounding tissues and act as a sponge in your skin. The filler is broken down by natural hyalase in our bodies, forming water and carbon molecules which are then dispersed into the tissues.

+ What areas can be treated with fillers?

Any area that has lost volume and/or requires lifting will benefit from fillers.

We take a total face approach to dermal fillers, injecting them into different skin planes to achieve the desired result. This includes into the cheeks, temple, lips, chin, jawline and around the mouth region.

+ Are dermal fillers safe?

Dermal Fillers have been used for many years in cosmetic medicine. All Dermal Filler used in Australia is subject to rigorious testing prior to being available on the market. Fillers are made from cross linked Hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance that can be found in your joints and skin. It helps maintain shape and hydration. It has a similar structure to a sugar molecule.

It is important to only have dermal fillers injected by an experienced medical practioner. In experienced hands, filler treatments have a very high saftey record.

+ How long will my filler last?

Depending on what type of filler is used they can last anything from between 6-9 months to 12-18 months before a repeat treatment is required. The longevity of a treatment will depend on the depth of lines, volume lost, condition of the skin and lifestyle of the individual.

+ Are filler injections painful?

Our dermal filler contains local anesthetic which helps reduce pain for many hours after the treatment. For sensitive areas like the lips or under the eyes, a topical anesthetic cream can be used so that the procedure is practically painless.

+ Will I get any bruising?

All injections carry the risk of bruising. Some individuals bruise more than others, as do those taken aspirin, antiinflammatories, blood thinners and fish oil capsules. You should let us know if you are taking any of these medications and Dr Tracey will assess if it is safe for you to stop them prior to your procedure.

Some patients experience delayed bruising. This can be distressing, but is usually harmless and can be concealed with cosmetics. All patients receiving filler treatments are given an after-hours number to call if they are concerned by any bruising or other side effects. Your comfort and safety are of utmost importance to us.
